Information About Volunteering to Support Countries Devastated by the Earthquake and Tsunamis
Wednesday, December 29, 2004
Thank you for your interest in the American Red Cross. In regards to volunteering internationally the Red Cross has a team of selected members who are trained to respond in different areas, including water and sanitation, technical assistance, and family linking. Additional trained response personnel are on standby. At this time there is not a current need to expand this group, but we thank you for your interest.
If you would like to donate financially to the international disaster you can contact 1-800-HELP-NOW or visit our national web site at www.redcross.org/donate/donation-form.asp.
American Red Cross does have many volunteers and employees who respond to several disasters domestically. They help with responding to local fires or other disasters in their neighborhood and chapters also register volunteers for large disasters such as the recent hurricanes. To get involved, contact your local chapter. You can find out your local chapter by visiting the national web site at www.redcross.org/where/where.html and entering in your ZIP code. You can also browse through a list of available chapters.
