Monday, April 04, 2005

Northeastern Middle School in York County, PA
After learning about the Measles Initiative in March 2004, the Red Cross Club at Northeastern Middle School in York County, PA decided to help by raising money to vaccinate children in Africa against measles . The students cut red crosses out of construction paper and sold them for twenty-five cents before school each morning for four weeks. They made announcements every morning before the start of school to remind the students and teachers about the importance of the the Measles Initiative and saving lives of children in Africa .

The purchasers wrote their names or a message on the red cross and the club students hung all of the red crosses around the school. They covered every hallway and many of the stairways and raised more than 200. The club students were very excited about the project. They also watched 'Disease of the Wind' documentary about the measles epidemic in Africa and they also saw the Channel One program that spotlighted the Measles Initiative.
