Stars Join 2005 Celebrity Cabinet

Thursday, January 13, 2005 — Some of today’s hottest stars of stage, screen and music have joined the 2005 American Red Cross Celebrity Cabinet, including Academy Award-nominated actress Julianne Moore, famed director Spike Lee, boxing legend George Foreman, and telenovela actress Gabriela Spanic.

“The Red Cross is grateful that so many celebrities are lending their time to help our humanitarian mission,” said Marsha J. Evans, President and CEO of the American Red Cross. “Last year celebrities helped raise awareness of Red Cross lifesaving activities and the importance of donating blood and generated overall excitement about the importance of Red Cross. We are equally honored that so many celebrities believe the Red Cross is a worthy cause and have decided to rejoin the cabinet.”

Other new Celebrity Cabinet members include:


Songstress Patti Labelle is one of the newest additions to the Red Cross Celebrity Cabinet.

  • Keiko Agena, better known as Lane Kim on the WBs Gilmore Girls;
  • Drake Bell, star of Nickelodeon's “Drake and Josh.”
  • Giselle Blondet, co-host of Univision’s Despierta America (Wake up America);
  • Andres Cantor, Telemundo’s leading sports anchor known for his famous “Gooooal” when calling soccer matches;
  • Multi-platinum RCA recording artist Sara Evans;
  • Melissa Gilbert of Little House on the Prairie;
  • Heavy weight boxing champion George Foreman;
  • Kristin Kreuk of the WB's Smallville and spokesperson for Neutrogena;
  • Grammy Award winning recording artist Patti LaBelle;
  • Phylicia Rashad, Tony and Drama Desk Award-winning actress; and
  • Gabriela Spanic, one of the world’s most recognized novela actresses.

“The Red Cross is an organization run with the goal of helping people in need, regardless of their race, sex, socio-economic status or political affiliation,” said new Cabinet member Kreuk. “I am honored to be a small part of such a noble cause.” These 13 new members of the cabinet join returning members Jim Cantore; Dakota Fanning; Leeza Gibbons; Cuba Gooding, Jr.; Jimmie Johnson; Heidi Klum; Nicole Miller; Peyton Manning; Julianna Margulies; Marlee Matlin; Chi McBride; Tim McGraw; Nancy O'Dell; Rascal Flatts; Marco Antonio Regil; Al Roker; Christina Sanchez; Jane Seymour; and Randy Travis.

Celebrity Cabinet members help the Red Cross in a variety of ways including taping public service announcements, participating in select Red Cross functions, donating items to auctions and participating in opportunities to raise awareness and visibility of the organization's lifesaving activities. Several of our cabinet members are currently supporting the Red Cross' Tsunami relief efforts.
