Wednesday, November 09, 2005 SAN JOSE, Calif. – Annie Cho, currently a junior at Lynbrook High School, serves as the Co-Vice President of Activities at her school’s American Red Cross club, which is the oldest high school club in the Santa Clara Valley Chapter of the Red Cross.

Her involvement with Red Cross started two years ago during her freshman year of high school. Of the countless American Red Cross projects Annie has helped with, the Smoke Detectives Program is by far the one she values most because, as she says, “the simple task of distributing smoke alarms may save someone’s life.”
“When I heard that an elderly woman had burned to death in her mobile home, and that a smoke alarm was nowhere to be found in the aftermath of the fire, I jumped at this chance to aid the community when help was needed,” said Cho. “Ever since the program began, I have attended Smoke Detectives and helped distribute smoke alarms in the East San Jose area. Although the neighborhood is a little bit intimidating, the people are genuinely grateful for what Red Cross does, and that makes up for my sore legs after walking around a couple hours with platform shoes.”
Cho is just one, shining example of the dedicated and motivated youth that make up the American Red Cross. Volunteers like Annie inspire those around her to make a difference and change the world.
