About the American Red Cross
Southern California Blood Region
Every day, about 1,000 Southern Californians
need blood.
Last year, the American Red Cross Southern California Blood Region provided about 600,000 blood products to 150 hospitals in Los Angeles, Orange and San Diego Counties.
In addition to providing blood products
to Southern California hospitals, the Red Cross commitment to
the education of health care professionals continues to excel.
Last year, Red Cross awarded over 4,800 continuing education
hours.
The American Red Cross Southern California Blood Region's research program, working in collaboration with local universities, is internationally recognized for major contributions to transfusion medicine.
The Region is also an active member in
the National Marrow Donor Program (NMDP). There are over 138,000
local donors in the NMDP Registry.
Last year, 750 volunteers assisted the
Red Cross in its mission of providing blood to Southern California
