Navin Narayan College Scholarships
Planning for a college education? Worried about the considerable cost of attending a college or university? Be pro-active and apply for a scholarship.
To help assist with the transition from high school to college, the National Youth Council and Youth and Young Adult Programs and Services division of the Office of the National Chair of Volunteers are inviting applications for the Navin Narayan College Scholarship, a one-time award of $1250 paid directly to each of two recipients upon proof of matriculation.
Applicants must be high school seniors planning to attend four-year colleges or universities who have served a minimum of two years as a Red Cross volunteer.
The application process consists of four parts—
- the application form;
- a recommendation from the applicant’s Red Cross unit;
- a recommendation from a high school faculty staff member;
- a copy of the applicant’s official high school transcripts.
All four parts of the application must be completed to be eligible for consideration.

Navin Narayan National Youth Speaker Award
Do you know a youth volunteer who made a difference in your local community? Does he or she demonstrate strong leadership skills? Would he or she represent all of youth involved with the Red Cross? If the answer is yes, then you have a strong candidate for the Navin Narayan Youth Speaker Award. Act now and nominate a youth or young adult volunteer.
This award will go to a high school student who will represent all Red Cross youth and the potential, achievements and hopes of young people at the American Red Cross National Awards and Recognition Ceremony in Washington, D.C.
The Navin Narayan Youth Speaker will act as an ambassador on behalf of the National Youth Council and the Office of the National Chair of Volunteers. The title holder becomes a representative of young people across the nation for one year. He or she will travel the Service Areas, meeting chapter executives, coordinators and youth and young adults. He or she will participate in mission-related events and speak on all core services. The Youth Speaker addresses the potential, achievements and hopes of young people as they meet the challenges of the future in serving their communities through the Red Cross. In the event the Speaker is unable to attend or perform his or her duty throughout the year for any reason, the Alternate Speaker will be called upon to perform the duty of the Speaker.
