  Delegate Deployments – International Disaster Response Roster:

These delegates have received extensive training and qualifications in order to be included on the International Disaster Response Volunteer Roster.

Roster members Roger Palmer and Glen Bradley were recently in Banda Aceh, Indonesia, building IT and Telecommunications capacity for the Indonesian Red Cross.

Indonesia: Roster members Roger Palmer and Glen Bradley were recently in Banda Aceh, Indonesia, building IT and Telecommunications capacity for the Indonesian Red Cross. They rehabilitated a radio network that will be used by the Indonesian Red Cross as an early warning system, as well as trained staff on use of the system. Glen is from Sierra Vista, Arizona, and the Grand Canyon Chapter; Roger is from Appleton, Wisconsin, and the Outagamie County Chapter.

 Roster member Deb Castellano is in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia as a trainee intern delegate, working at the International Federation's Asia Pacific Regional Logistics Unit.

Malaysia: Roster member Deb Castellano is in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia as a trainee intern delegate, working at the International Federation’s Asia Pacific Regional Logistics Unit. Deb is working in their warehouse as a logistics team member, learning about logistics and warehouse management, and the connection with supplying Relief Emergency Response Units in the field. She comes from the Greater Carolinas Chapter in Charlotte, N.C.

American Red Cross Hosts Visit from Red Cross Society of China
The American Red Cross recently hosted a visit from a delegation from the Red Cross Society of China (RCSC). Besides visiting national headquarters in Washington, DC, the Chinese delegation went on to visit the Greater New York Chapter in New York City, the Bay Area Chapter in San Francisco, and the Silicon Valley Chapter in San Jose, California to thank donors for their support in response to the May 2008 China earthquake and provide a briefing on the massive recovery operation underway.

Toy Pandas Help Children Heal in Sichuan
In May 2008, an 8.0 magnitude earthquake struck Sichuan, China. Today the focus is on recovery. For some that is rebuilding physical homes, but for the youngest survivors recovering emotionally requires a different approach. Through a furry toy panda named Qiuqiu, children have begun to heal.

Every 30 seconds, a child dies from malaria. On April 25, the Movement will be recognizing World Malaria Day to call attention to needs and support the global effort to combat this deadly disease around the world.

On May 8, the American Red Cross will join with 185 other Red Cross and Red Crescent national societies from around the globe to celebrate World Red Cross Red Crescent Day. World Red Cross Red Crescent Day offers a great opportunity to raise awareness of your chapter's contribution to the Movement and to recognize your volunteers who work on vital international issues.

New ARC HIV/AIDS Program in Western Kenya

American Red Cross has started work on a new, three-year, comprehensive HIV/AIDS prevention care and support project in Kenya to prevent new HIV infection, and improve the quality of life of those affected.
