Welcome to Legacy

We are pleased to provide you with the introductory issue of Legacy, a publication of the American Red Cross. We thank you for your past support and for subscribing to Legacy, which is being sent to many of our supporters and friends in the belief that the information it provides will be mutually advantageous to them and to the Red Cross.

Our newsletter, written and edited by leading tax and estate planning analysts, will bring to you three times each year valuable information based on the latest laws, rulings and court decisions. We hope that Legacy will become an important part of your tax, financial and estate planning.

Legacy also will suggest ways in which you can generate maximum impact with your charitable giving. For many years it has been a national policy to encourage philanthropy through tax incentives built into federal legislation by Congress. Our newsletter will explain how these advantages can enable you to magnify your support for the American Red Cross, often at very small after-tax cost. (You should, of course, always consult with your professional advisers.)

Help for those who need it most

Financial and estate planning is important to business and professional men and women. It is even more important to a national organization such as the American Red Cross, for a substantial part of our annual budget must come in the form of gifts and grants from friends, corporations and foundations. Development efforts at the American Red Cross combine long range planning with fund-raising goals and objectives. If individuals are to realize their life goals, planning is equally necessary. It is in this spirit that Legacy is being offered to you and other friends of the American Red Cross.
