Question: I want to make a donation online. Is this a secure way to donate?
Answer: The internet is a vital way that Americans and people all over the world have helped fund Red Cross disaster relief and other vital programs and services. The convenience and immediacy of online giving make it easy for the donor and very for Red Cross to move resources more quickly to the people we help.
The American Red Cross considers the security of its donation website, www.redcross.org and its donors to be of paramount importance. As such, we use several layers of protective measures including but not limited to blocking and filtering technologies, surveillance, system updates and anti-fraud measures. In addition, the Red Cross performs system vulnerability assessments using internal resources and external, third-party assessments.
Disasters will spur significant volumes of online traffic to redcross.org. To accommodate this, the Red Cross has partnered with several other large, reputable organizations to help manage the capacity so that every individual’s online giving experience is smooth and uninterrupted.

Question: Does the Red Cross send e-mail solicitations?
Answer: The Red Cross sends e-mail only to individuals who have signed up to receive e-mail updates from the organization.
Emails may include information like news, safety tips, or online Red Cross store promotions of emergency kits and reference guides. Some emails provide on-the-scene disaster updates and stories. Stories might be about the people being helped by Red Cross relief, programs and services around the world; and about the people helping them.
If you receive an email from Red Cross asking for money, but you are not sure you subscribed for Red Cross online communications, do not respond to that email, as it has the potential to be fraudulent. We would appreciate it greatly if you alerted our Donor Services Department about such a questionable piece. And if you are interested to support Red Cross with a donation, go directly to www.redcross.org to make your online gift, so you’re safer and assured that it’s going to the right place!
