The American Red Cross of Gibson County provides services to families affected by disasters including
single family fires, tornadoes, windstorms, earthquakes, flood, etc. Any family affected by a disaster may
call 812 386-6300 day or night to request assistance. Disaster Action Teams are always on standby to
provide assistance.
During 2005 the American Red Cross of Gibson County responsed to 22 events including single family
fires, an apartment fire, a winter storm, and the worst flooding along the White and Wabash Rivers in
100 years. In all 167 individuals were assisted by the local Red Cross. In addition, the Emergency
Response Vehicle was utilized to provide meals, snacks, and drinks to over 430 individuals, emergency
workers, and ohers affected by the disaster. The chapter also assisted 12 families affected by
Hurricane Katrina and sent four disaster workers to the affected area.
