YOUTH CORP
Youth Corp Membership
The American Red Cross of Gibson County is one of the leaders in providing youth
activities for students in grades 4 through 12. Organized in 1999 the Gibson County
Youth Corp has received state recognition for its well organized and expertly developed
youth activities. Under the leadership of Maxine Higgins for the past six years, the
Youth Corp has provided community service activities, fun activities, health & safety
training, Babysitting Training, and youth disaster service training and services during
floods, windstorms, and winter storms.
Community Service
Community Service activities have included visits to nursing homes, working
in city parks, marching in parades, and working in disasters.

Fun and Educational Activities
Each summer the members of the Youth Corp take trips to State Parks,
have parties, go swimming, and take educational trips to such places as
Marengo Cave, New Harmony, or visit the memorial day celebrations at
Vincennes.
Special Awards
Members of the Youth Corp work toward the lofty goal of receiving the National
Presidential Award given to youth who serve 100 hours of community service
durng any 12 month period. To date eleven members have received this coveted
award.
