What is the Youth Executive Board?
The Gold Country Youth Executive Board is a group of high school students within the Gold Country Region devoted to fostering a sense of community through a variety of service and social events held regularly throughout the school year. The Board consists of active high school clubs from all across the region, and members have the option to join one of three committees―Service, Social, and Publicity. The Board's ultimate goal is to develop interest in the Red Cross among local youth, and to help better our community through service.
Why join the Youth Executive Board?
The Youth Executive Board is a great way to meet other driven high school students just like YOU. By volunteering with the Board and attending meetings, you will have the opportunity to develop new skills while also developing lifelong friendships and making a difference within your community. It's the perfect way to learn more about what it means to be a Red Cross volunteer!
The Service Committee
The Service Committee creates and plans events and opportunities to promote youth involvement in the American Red Cross. The service committee aims to support the American Red Cross and community through fundraisers and volunteering. This committee teaches the youth what it means to be involved members of the community. Most recently, the Service Committee has held a variety of fun events, from a giftwrapping fundraiser and Barnes and Noble to Christmas caroling at the VA Medical Center. Joining the Service Committee is a great way for students to help make a difference in their community.
The Social Committee
The Social Committee brings together young individuals from diverse backgrounds and different high school clubs, to participate in social events and activities; promoting cooperation, diversity, and inclusiveness. The Social Committee plans and hosts social events so that students from all different schools can get to know each other better, create friendships, and work together. Social life in the youth is very prominent and by having social events we can empower the youth and encourage our community to take part to volunteer with the American Red Cross. Joining the Social Committee is a great way for students to make new friends and to foster lifelong relationships.
The Publicity Committee
The Publicity Committee strives to spread awareness of Red Cross, expanding the mission and reaching out to youth. The Publicity Committee's goal is to facilitate communication between the Board and other Red Cross youth volunteers. Members of the Publicity Committee help to develop a newsletter for Red Cross youth volunteers and also use social media to get the word out about the Red Cross. Joining the Publicity Committee is a great way to develop communication skills and learn about public relations.
