Thousands of dedicated men, women and young adults serve as local volunteers. They respond to more than 100 local disasters in Santa Clara County as well as over 50 national disasters each year. They teach courses, ranging from the fundamentals of first aid to highly sophisticated lifesaving methods, assist with community outreach and education, provide logistic support and much more. Funds are required to recruit, train and equip each volunteer, and to maintain effective communications.
In addition, American Red Cross of the Silicon Valley provides many direct services to Santa Clara County residents affected by disasters, from immediate food, clothing and shelter to longer-term mental health counseling. These services require on-going financial support so the Red Cross can continue to meet every need.
