Mail for Heroes

  • Maine Red Cross Mail for Heroes

Send a note of gratitude to our service members and veterans in Maine for Armed Forces Day!

The American Red Cross of Maine encourages you to show your support for the men and women who serve our country. Our Service to the Armed Forces program will collect cards from Mainers and deliver them to active duty service members in the state and to veterans at Togus Veterans Affairs Medical Center and the Maine Veterans Homes.

Armed Forces Day is celebrated on the third Saturday of May, which is Military Appreciation Month. Please send us your cards between April 1 and April 15.

Here are some tips.

DO…

  • Make cards more meaningful to a wide variety of possible recipients by using general greetings like “Dear Hero,” Dear Veteran,” or “Dear Service Member.”
  • Write heartfelt sentiments and keep messages positive.
  • Remember that cards will be delivered to service members and veterans here in Maine, so messages like “Come home safe” don’t apply.
  • Sign your card.
  • DON’T…

  • Give out your phone number, home address or email.
  • Use glitter as it could aggravate health issues of wounded, ill or injured recipients.
  • Enclose any items with cards.
  • Put individual cards in envelopes.
  • Mail cards to us at:
