Through the heartfelt testimony of our speakers and the generosity of our donors, this year’s Women Who Care breakfast on October 2, 2014 raised $230,000 to support the vital services of the American Red Cross.
Community members who have been aided by the American Red Cross shared their inspiring stories. Boston Mayor Martin Walsh was so moved by the powerful humanitarian moments that he discarded his prepared remarks and emotionally reflected on what the Red Cross means to Greater Boston. Rev. Liz Walker electrified the crowd with a speech likening the Red Cross to “a conduit of grace” for the people and places which need it most. Dr. Kerry Healey spoke of the Red Cross’ constant presence in her life: as a teenager fleeing a hurricane, she found shelter with the Red Cross; later, as Lieutenant Governor, she witnessed how the Red Cross saved lives following 2006’s devastating Mother’s Day Flood.
Because of the success of this event our dedicated volunteers are able to receive the proper training and material support they need to respond 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year to disasters, fires and other emergencies.
