Every day, around the clock, Red Cross Disaster Action Teams are on call to respond to local emergencies. Whether a home fire or a regional flood, Disaster Action teams are ready to assess damage and provide emergency assistance. During the initial days following a disaster, the Red Cross meets immediate individual or community needs for food, shelter, clothing -- and care. More than 6,600 St. Louis Area residents received disaster assistance from the Red Cross in 2011. In addition, Disaster Action Teams provided 16,447 emergency responders food and beverages during a crisis.
The Red Cross provides disaster survivors:
  • Shelter
  • Food
  • Clothing, shoes and coats
  • Toiletry items
  • Medical supplies (diabetes equipment, contacts, glasses, dentures …)
  • Replacement medicines
  • Mental Health support
  • Clean-up kits (bleach, mops, buckets …) Bulk distribution items (rakes, tarps, trash bags, etc.)
  • Funeral Expenses
