Online registration for disaster training is available only to disaster volunteers who have completed the Red Cross volunteer application process. If you are already a disaster volunteer, you can register for courses by logging in to Volunteer Connection by contacting your supervisor for registration instructions.
Becoming a New Disaster Volunteer in the Emergency Services Department
The American Red Cross Greater New York region responds to an average of seven to eight disasters each day, nearly 2,300 a year. Our disaster Planning & Response volunteers are on the front lines, out on the streets and in communities, day and night, to meet the needs of families and residents with food, clothing, temporary housing, emotional support and emergency supplies.

Become a Disaster Volunteer
Red Cross disaster volunteers receive more than 40 hours of free, specialized Red Cross training to prepare them to assume vital responsibilities in the areas of field operations, disaster assessment, mass care, sheltering and psychological first aid.
Time commitment varies from full-time internships to attending just 4 events a year as a reserve volunteer. Our volunteer coordinators can help you find the position that best fits your schedule.
Take the first step to becoming a Greater New York disaster volunteer. We will train you to handle local emergencies in our region and/or ready you for deployment to national disasters—hurricanes, floods, wildfires—elsewhere in the US.
