Catastrophic Incident Response Initiative

  • Greater New York - Catastrophic Incident Response Initiative

ARC/GNY developed the Catastrophic Incident Response Initiative (CIRI) in 2008 to ensure that the Chapter is ready to meet the needs of the communities it serves in times of large and catastrophic disasters, as well during the 8 emergencies that occur on average every day, 365 days per year. Readying the Chapter for large-scale, catastrophic incidents requires a dramatic increase in our capacity, and the success of this effort greatly depends upon the participation of leading corporate partners.

To enhance the capacity of our community to respond to disasters, CIRI is designed to:

  • Build ARC/GNY’s corps of disaster-trained volunteers to 10,000
  • Procure necessary supplies, distribution capabilities, vehicles and communication equipment
  • Expand partnerships with public agencies and human service organizations to increase individual and community preparedness
  • Create community-wide dialogue to make preparedness a civic imperative
  • Establish long-term financial stability
