How do you determine whether you are an Authorized Provider or Licensed Training Provider?

The American Red Cross houses two channels that are third party vendors; these are our Authorized Provider and Licensed Training Providers

An Authorized Provider is a company, organization, individual or agency that has signed an Authorized Provider Agreement with the Red Cross to provide American Red Cross instructional programs in accordance with the standards and objectives of the program they desire to teach.

•By becoming an Authorized Provider, you can build your own training team to teach Health & Safety courses to employees of your business or members of your organization

•We ask that our Authorized Providers teach at least 10 classes a year, training at least 100 participants

Licensed Training Providers are training organizations that offer Red Cross Health and Safety training in a responsive, accessible and high-quality and professional manner to the community. A Licensed Training Provider is considered an entrepreneur, who has become certified to teach the community.

•We require that prospective Licensed Training Providers complete the ARC Business Plan before signing a Licensed Training Provider Agreement.

•We also ask that our Licensed Training Providers conduct at least 10 classes per year, training at least 100 students.

Are there any pre-requisites to becoming an American Red Cross Instructor?

Yes. In order to become an Instructor, you must have base level certificates in FIRST AID/CPR/AED- Adult and Pediatric. If you do not have current certificates, you will need to register for a base level course. If you do have current certificates, please bring them to your Instructor course.

Once I become certified as an instructor, can I go out and start teaching?

No. Once you are certified, you will need to contact your local Authorized Provider/Licensed Training Provider or Aquatics Specialist Representative to set up an agreement. For a Licensed Training Provider, you will first need to complete a Business Plan.

What are the costs associated with becoming an Instructor?

Whether you become an Authorized Provider or Licensed Training Provider, you will accrue the same costs. These costs include manikins, training AEDs, materials, and certificates. Please see the documents below for further information.
