Diversity & Inclusion

The purpose of the Diversity and Inclusion Committee of the Cincinnati Area Chapter is to advance the National Red Cross diversity strategy with the goal of making the Red Cross an organization that includes and engages all parts of our communities. Members of the committee include leaders in all aspects of diversity and inclusion in the Cincinnati area.

Priority goals include:

  • Developing a supplier diversity program that increases the amount of money spent with minority suppliers in our Region.
  • Results: In the last year for which data was available, 2010, we spent 14% of discretionary dollars on minority suppliers.

  • Diversifying both our volunteer and paid workforce, so that the Red Cross mirrors the communities it serves.
  • Results: Have achieved a volunteer base that is comprised of 20% diverse volunteers, and a paid staff that is 21% diverse.

  • Engaging partner organizations in our work that help us reach new populations with services and involving them as volunteers and supporters.
  • Results: In 2012, we developed relationships with two new partner organizations for volunteers and service delivery: the Islamic Center and Tzu Chi.

    Recent activities:

  • Hispanic Outreach Team
  • Diversity Day, Nov. 15—Floyd Pitts, Red Cross Chief Diversity Officer, spent the day with Red Cross staff and volunteer leaders, encouraging them to implement National diversity initiatives. He also moderated a panel discussion for business leaders from the Cincinnati community on the benefits of a supplier diversity program.
  • Continuing diversity education with Red Cross staff.
