Cleveland - Leadership - Jorge Martinez

Jorge Martinez, a retired Coast Guard Commander, joined the American Red Cross Northeast Ohio Region in April, 2017.

Prior to joining the Red Cross Jorge served in the Coast Guard for 23 years of active duty service. Over the course of his career, Jorge has served in many capacities. His last assignment was leading and inspiring 3,000 Coast Guard volunteers (Coast Guard Auxiliary) in support of various Coast Guard missions over the 8-state Great Lakes Region.

As sea going officer and humanitarian at heart, Jorge has helped save or assist over 1,000 people in distress on the high seas. In 2004, he was part of the UN Peace keeping force in Haiti after the ouster of President Jean-Bertrand Aristide. In addition to his 9 years of sea time, Jorge also worked as a finance officer and a civil engineer/facility asset manager.

Jorge graduated from the United States Coast Guard Academy in New London, CT where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics. He later earned a Master of Science degree in Civil Engineering from Worcester Polytechnic Institute, in Worcester, MA.

Jorge is married to the former Nancy Lynn Bennett. They have three children and reside in Hudson, Ohio.
