In addition to connecting you with programs and services offered by the Red Cross, the Northeast Ohio Region offers referrals and resources for those in need. When additional help is required, we link clients with agencies that provide long-term assistance in the form of food, shelter, clothing, furniture and more. Below is a list of agencies that can provide assistance outside of the Red Cross domain.

Erie County

Care & Share of Erie County

Services: Provides food, clothing, linens, minor household items and some furniture.

Volunteers of America

Services: Provides emergency assistance and temporary housing for homeless or disaster related victims in Sandusky. Also operates a food pantry in Sandusky.

Area Agency on Aging, Ohio District 5

Services: The Ohio District 5 Area Agency on Aging is responsible for developing a comprehensive and coordinated service system for older individuals residing in Ashland, Crawford, Huron, Knox, Marion, Morrow, Richland, Seneca & Wyandot Counties. Available services include: mobility assistance programs; meal plans and housing; assistance in gaining access to services; individual counseling; support groups; caregiver training; respite care and supplemental services.

Catholic Charities/H.O.P.E. Pantry

Services: H.O.P.E. Food Pantry serves individuals and families in Richland County. It is stocked through the generosity of local community members, organizations, parishes and food drives. Many volunteers help in the pantry as the hands and heart of Christ for those in need. Clients can choose food according to their individual needs and preferences.

Richland County 2-1-1

Services: Free information and referral line for human service agencies, food and shelter providers, childcare resources, special services for seniors and volunteer opportunities in Richland County. Like 911 for emergency services, First Call 211 is a free information line for non-emergency community information.

The Salvation Army

Services: The Salvation Army in Wooster is dedicated to serving the men, women, and children who are at-risk and in need of financial, social service, and spiritual support. The Salvation Army works every day to elevate individuals up from despair to provide hope and assistance by teaching life skills, and providing individuals with an opportunity to maximize their physical, emotional, and spiritual being to affect life change.

Services: Provides emergency financial assistance for utilities, rent, gasoline, prescription medications, and other special requests. Families are seen on a first come, first serve basis.

1. Proof of Wayne County residency for the immediate past 90 days.

2. A Social Security Number (card or official doc) for head of household.

3. Proof of income for entire household for the past 30 days.

4. Certain types of assistance require additional documents:

  • Rent requires written notice form landlord stating you are 30 days past due;
  • Utilities requires Disconnect Notice;
  • Gasoline requires written verification of a medical appointment or other emergency.
  • Prescription medication requires a written prescription from your doctor.
  • Other Special Requests require a written estimate, bill, etc.
