In western Pennsylvania, the local American Red Cross responds to a disaster nearly once per day. Most often, these disasters are home fires. Each year, local volunteers and staff assist thousands of people as they navigate their path to recovery.
There are simple steps that anyone can take to safeguard themselves and their loved ones. The Home Fire Preparedness Campaign (HFPC) aims to educate residents on these steps while also giving them the tools and resources for fire protection. HFPC prepares residents through a three-pronged approach: fire prevention awareness events, targeted educational canvassing and smoke detector installation.
HFPC launched in 2014 and has focused on communities frequently affected by fires. The Red Cross partners with local fire departments to provide tools and resources to assist local families, enabling them to better prepare for the possibility of a home fire. The Red Cross, in partnership with the local fire department and other community partners, carries out the HFPC program in fire-prone neighborhoods throughout the Western Pennsylvania Region of the American Red Cross.
