As part of the Red Cross Home Fire Preparedness Campaign, we have been going out to communities across our region to install free smoke alarms and provide emergency preparedness education to residents. Our region had the opportunity to witness the importance of this campaign first hand during our tremendously successful smoke alarm installation on October 22 in the Onleyville section of Providence. Several Red Crossers came out to help install more than 150 smoke alarms in the community in just a few short hours. It was an inspiring day for all of us to help provide education and resources to those who need it the most.
Practice fire drills at home.
Use this Home Fire Escape Plan worksheet to plan your evacuation and practice it at least twice a year as a family.
Test your smoke alarms monthly.
Make sure you and your family are alerted as soon as a fire is detected. If the smoke alarm isn’t working, change the batteries.
