Thank you to all of our sponsors and players for a very successful 20th Anniversary Swing for Relief Golf Tournament last month. We’ve had some great tournaments over the years, and each one has been more fun than the last. To those of you who have been with us from the beginning, thanks for coming back, and if you were first-time player this year, we hope to see you again next year.

We owe Tom Scott and PCI so much for their continuing support. Tom’s commitment and the commitment of PCI’s staff and players have helped make this tournament what it is – one of the largest in North Texas, and certainly one of the most successful Red Cross fund-raising events!

On this 20th Anniversary, we also need to remember Dr. Erwin Thal. It was his commitment to the Red Cross and his vision that set the successful foundation for the Swing for Relief tournament. A Red Cross Board Member from 1977 until his death in 2013, Dr. Thal co-chaired the golf tournament’s steering committee for 13 years, along with Mel John. And of course, we are all so appreciative for the work Mel has since done and for his efforts to grow this event. His dedication of time and resources have been an invaluable contribution to the success of Swing for Relief.

I think we can all agree that the venue, the Lakes at Castle Hills, was beautiful, even if the wind was a bit distracting. But not all of us noticed the weather – Bill Allen was successful at Hole #7 and won the lease for the BMW. Then he promptly turned around and donated the cash value of the lease to the American Red Cross, in honor of Tom Scott and his role in Swing for Relief. Bill, you’re a star!

We want to give a special shout out to Mark Fox of the National Weather Service for taking time out during hurricane season to talk with us about weather patterns, and what we can expect in the future. And once again, a big thank you to Chris Arnold for emceeing the evening program.

We had some terrific food and beverage partners, too – Classic BMW for water (which we burned through!), MillerCoors (we did a good job of going through some beer, too), Jack Daniels (wasn’t Hole #3 a nice surprise?) and finally to Fernando’s, who did such a great job with the excellent quesadillas and tacos. (Did anyone say margaritas?) Thank you for partnering with us.

We have many photos of the event, which you can find on our Flickr account.
