All day, every day, the Red Cross connects service members with their families back home when an emergency strikes. Wherever their military service takes them, service members can rest assured that the Red Cross will deliver notification of an emergency such as the death or serious illness of an immediate family member, as well as the good news of the birth of a service member's child or grandchild.
The Red Cross partners with the military aid societies to help service members and their families get emergency financial assistance 24/7, as well as providing counseling, guidance, information, referrals and other social services for all military personnel and their families.
In addition to being that critical link, the Carolina Piedmont Red Cross provides critical briefings on our services to hundreds of new recruits from our community every year. Our chapter also provides deployment and reintegration briefings for local military families, as their loved ones prepare to serve overseas or at home.

The Service to the Armed Forces program dates back to the establishment of the American Red Cross by Clara Barton in May 1881. Not only did the “Angel of the Battlefield” risk her life tending to soldiers wounded in the Civil War, she bolstered their morale by writing letters for them to send to their families. Today’s American Red Cross workers proudly carry on this tradition through the SAF program, which serves as a critical line of communication between the U.S Armed Forces and their families. Teh Carolina Piedmont Red Cross is proud to be part of this crucial humanitarian network.
