Lifeguarding

Interested in a great summer job or challenging career as a professional lifeguard? Through videos, group discussion and hands-on practice, you’ll learn teamwork, rescue and surveillance skills, First Aid and CPR/AED and other skills you need to work as a professional lifeguard. We offer courses tailored to waterparks and waterfronts. Also available in online/onsite blended learning format.

Prerequisites: Must be at least 15 years old and pass certain swimming requirements
Certification: 2 year First Aid and CPR/AED certifications and 2 year Lifeguarding certification

Water Safety Instructor

Are you interested in teaching swim lessons? The purpose of the Red Cross Water Safety Instructor course is to train instructor candidates to teach water safety, including the Basic Water Rescue and Personal Water Safety courses, six levels of Learn-to-Swim, three levels of Preschool Aquatics and two levels of Parent and Child Aquatics.

Prerequisites: Be at least 16 years of age on or before the last day of the instructor course
Certification: Water Safety Instructor, valid for 2 years

Lifeguard Instructor

The purpose of the instructor course is to train instructor candidates to teach the Red Cross Lifeguarding, Shallow Water Lifeguarding, Waterfront Skills, Waterpark Skills, CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers and Health Care Providers, Administering Emergency Oxygen and Bloodborne Pathogens.

Training: Preventing Disease Transmission courses and/or modules. Instructor candidates will also become familiar with Junior Lifeguarding, Lifeguard Management, Safety Training for Swim Coaches and Basic Water Rescue.

Prerequisites:
  • Be at least 17 years old on or before the last day of the instructor course.
  • Possess one of the following:
  • A current American Red Cross certificate for Lifeguarding/First Aid/CPR/AED.
  • A current American Red Cross certificate for Lifeguarding/First Aid and either an
  • American Red Cross certificate for CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer or an
  • American Red Cross certificate for CPR/AED for Lifeguards.
  • An equivalent certificate from another organization.
