Career Highlights:
From the beginning of Mike Riley’s tenure of volunteering for the Red Cross he gave an average of 1200 hrs per year. Mike has volunteered an average of 780 hours a year at the Chapter working in our Disaster program as a Disaster Preparedness Specialist. Mike spent another 400 hours a year with our State Council, Northwest Institute, and various county and State organizations. Among Mikes many affiliations were: Dean (and past Vice-Dean) of the Northwest Institute for three years; member of the Washington State Executive Committee for State Leadership Training, vice chair of the State Disaster Committee, chairman of the State awards committee, county coordinator for the 1999 Federal Emergency Management Act, national disaster management coordinator, disaster training coordinator, certified disaster educator trainer, and a disaster volunteer coordinator. Mike was simply an inspiration and an example for all volunteers. His meticulous approach to records, attention to detail, and his innate ability to present himself in a most professional manor resulted in a polished and professional disaster department. Mike’s commitment to the serving of others, to something greater than himself, his flexibility and ability to listen to another’s opinion made him the most outstanding volunteer and co-worker I have ever been blessed to serve with. He simply inspired those around him to work hard, stay focused, live their lives with integrity, and laugh when every thing seemed to fail.
