Today’s Response in Bellows Falls is 14th in 14 Days

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE … (Bellows Falls, VT – January 2, 2013) Two days into the new year and two calls for disaster assistance. This has been the start of 2013 for the Vermont & the New Hampshire Upper Valley American Red Cross. At this hour, Red Cross volunteers are responding to a Bellows Falls, VT fire. Today is the 14th time local Red Cross volunteers have responded to the call for emergency assistance in just the past two weeks.

This afternoon’s call involves a structure fire at 8 Island Street, Bellows Falls, Vermont. The Red Cross has been informed that this is predominately a commercial building, but that there is an attached apartment. The volunteers will meet with the residents to determine what emergency assistance may be needed. Traditionally, the Red Cross can offer temporary lodging and financial support to help with food and clothing lost in a fire.

As noted, 2013 is staring much the way that 2012 came to a close in our region, with the Red Cross answering the call for help 14 times in 14 days. Responding to this high volume of disaster responses in our region cannot be accomplished without a dedicated corps of volunteers.
