Aiken Red Cross Helps Families Affected by Apartment Fire

Families displaced by fire in Aiken County get Red Cross help

North Augusta, S.C., May, 15, 2013 – The local American Red Cross provided immediate emergency assistance to three families who were affected by a multiple-unit apartment fire in North Augusta Wednesday evening. Four children and five adults were provided temporary shelter, financial assistance for food and clothing and blankets and toiletries. The Red Cross also provided referrals to partner agencies to assist with long-term recovery efforts.

“Our hearts go out to those families who were affected by this fire,” said Lindsay Findley, executive director, American Red Cross Aiken Area Chapter. “It is through our volunteers and our financial donors that we are able to be there for our community when it needs us most.”

On average the American Red Cross, Palmetto SC Region responds to a disaster every 6.5 hours. Since the beginning of the fiscal year, July 1, 2012, the Palmetto SC Region has responded to the needs of 1,472 families and 4,794 individuals affected by disasters.

The Palmetto SC Region is made up of seven Red Cross Chapters that span 35-counties of South Carolina.
