Hyannis, Mass, December 22, 2011 -The American Red Cross, Cape Cod and Islands Chapter, will hold a Disaster Services Overview class on Wednesday, January 11th at the American Red Cross Chapter House, 286 South Street, Hyannis, from 6:00 – 9:00 p.m.
The class will be taught by experienced local Red Cross Disaster volunteers. To register for this class, please respond to email@example.com with your name, address, email, and phone number.
Local Red Cross Volunteers support hundreds of individuals and families and first responders annually after they’ve been impacted by house fires, floods, storms or other disasters. They are typically active in their own geographical area (called Zone) but can also travel to other areas on Cape Cod and the Islands or off-Cape if so desired. For instance, this past year, several local volunteers deployed to Western Massachusetts after the tornado devastated the area as well as went to Mississippi, Tennessee, Missouri and other areas.
The Disaster Services Overview class is part of the basic core courses needed to become a Disaster Services volunteer with the American Red Cross. The course combines lecture and interactive video demonstrations featuring emergency scenarios that are likely to occur in a variety of environments programs. Students will be asked to fill out volunteer paperwork in the class and they will receive training manuals and certification cards.
