American Red Cross Holding Youth Writing Contest

The author of the winning essay will receive two tickets to the Heartland Heroes Dinner and sit at the table of Apolo Anton Ohno.

The American Red Cross is pleased to announce that the organization will hold an essay contest for young adults ages 10-18. The author of the winning essay will receive two tickets to the Saturday, May 4, 2013 Heartland Heroes Dinner and sit at the table of U.S. Olympian and Dancing with the Stars competitor, Apolo Anton Ohno.

Contestants need to submit an essay of 500 words or less with the subject “Why I want to meet Apolo Ohno” to the Red Cross office no later than April 17, 2013. Submissions also need to include the author’s name, age, school, phone number, e-mail address, parent/guardian name and a brief statement describing the activities of the author. One winner will be chosen from all eligible submissions by an independent panel of judges.

ABOUT THE HEARTLAND HEROES DINNER: The 2013 Heartland Heroes Dinner will be held at 6:30 p.m. Saturday, May 4, 2013, at Embassy Suites Conference Center in East Peoria. The keynote speaker will be of U.S. Olympian and Dancing with the Stars competitor, Apolo Ohno. Sponsorships and individual tickets are currently available.
