Bakersfield, CA, December 18th, 2012 — The Red Cross Holiday Mail for Heroes program distributes the cards to service members, veterans and their families across the country and around the world.
“This year’s response to our Holiday Mail for Heroes program was by far the strongest we’ve seen in years. It is heartwarming to see the 1000’s of cards and notes of cheer and gratitude written to the men and women who serve our country,” said Holly Arnold, CEO, Kern Chapter. “We were thrilled to see so many take part in this simple, yet very meaningful tradition of giving thanks to those who have sacrificed so much.”
Red Cross volunteers sort and deliver them to military installations, in VA and military hospitals and to veteran’s organizations in the United States and overseas. This year’s generosity allows us to distribute even more to our local Veterans and their families.
The Red Cross – Kern Chapter will be holding our annual Holiday Mail for Heroes sorting party at the Chapter tomorrow evening. If you are interested in volunteering, please contact the Chapter.

About our Holiday Partners
During this holiday season, the American Red Cross is grateful for the support of our corporate partners that generously contribute to our Holiday Giving Campaign. They include: University of Phoenix, Circle K West Coast Division, and the Community Safety Foundation, funded by AAA Northern California, Nevada & Utah Insurance Exchange. Thanks to the generosity of these and other sponsors, the Red Cross is able to carry out its mission of helping people prevent, prepare for and respond to emergencies everyday here and around the world. Each holiday season the Red Cross gives everyone the chance to support our work by giving blood, signing a card for military heroes or buying a gift through our holiday catalog.
