Beau Rivage and Red Cross Partner to Launch Veterans Hiring Program

Veterans deserve jobs in our communities. MGM Resorts and the Red Cross saw a need in returning veterans to be able to translate and truly showcase their skills and leadership abilities into the corporate workplace.

BILOXI, Miss – Sept. 5, 2013 – Beau Rivage Resort & Casino is partnering with the American Red Cross South Mississippi Chapter to launch its Boots to Business program that helps veterans transition from military service into employment at resorts owned and operated by MGM Resorts International.

Through the donation of a $250,000 national grant, MGM Resorts has partnered with the American Red Cross Service to the Armed Forces (SAF) Giving Program, which helps support members of the U.S. military, veterans and their families. Through the grant, the Red Cross will work with Beau Rivage to identify, recruit and hire veterans for employment at the resort, as well as provide support for MGM Resorts employees who are called to duty, and provide ongoing support in the form of mentoring and networking.

Boots to Business (B2B) is a 10-week hands-on employment training program specifically designed to provide veterans with unparalleled instruction, support services and mentoring experiences.

MGM Resorts, the Red Cross and veterans employment services have been working to identify candidates who possess leadership skills, a positive attitude and a desire to go above and beyond to exceed customer satisfaction.

Locally, the Red Cross has hired U.S. military veteran Chadwick J. Cashin to serve as a veteran employment coordinator to administer the program for Mississippi. Cashin is responsible for recruiting, assisting veterans with pre-employment support services, training and placement into available positions.

Veterans Michael Chevere and Tyler Angelle have been selected for participation in Beau Rivage’s inaugural Boots to Business program. Starting today, each participant will complete an extensive onsite orientation/development program, attend a series of Red Cross workshops and do work rotation throughout their selected department. At the end of the 10-week training period, Chevere and Angelle will be placed into full-time positions. Participating departments for the current program cycle include Hotel Operations and Food & Beverage.

Biloxi is one of the five communities benefiting from the national grant. Other areas include Las Vegas, Detroit, Prince George’s County, MD and Springfield, MA. The 10-week employee training and transition support program will be offered in Biloxi, Las Vegas, and Detroit, where MGM Resorts has an operational presence. In communities where MGM Resorts is establishing a presence—Prince George’s County, MD and Springfield, MA— the grant will support the identification, recruitment and transition support for veterans into existing community-based employers.
