The American Red Cross continues to provide disaster relief to those affected by wildfires throughout Arizona. Gene and Dana Bischke, of Bismarck, deployed on Saturday, July 6th for two weeks to assist. The Bischke’s have been working at the Yarnell distribution site and recently attended a memorial service for 19 firefighters that were members of the ‘Hot Shot’ team working to control the fires. 36 Emergency Response Vehicles were at the Memorial offering assistance to all attendees from the community.
"We are very proud of our volunteers from the region and the work they are doing down in Arizona," said Dakotas Region CEO, Judy Green. "They are a wonderful and selfless group of people."
The fire ripped through Yarnell Hill on June 30th. In addition to the tragic loss of life, many homes were destroyed.
Red Cross workers, including 6 members from the Dakotas Region, have provided more than 43,000 meals and snacks, more than 300 comfort kits, distributed 28,000 bulk items and sheltered about 300 residents displaced by the fire. That support will continue for as long as the community needs it.
