In its second annual Service Day, employees at Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts spent time away from the office on Sept. 25 to help out at the American Red Cross Food Pantry on Massachusetts Avenue.
Sarah McNeil, Manager of Foundation Relations for the American Red Cross of Eastern Massachusetts, said more than 50 employees worked at the pantry.
“The Blue Cross team is really dedicated to making an impact in our community,” McNeil said. “They were getting a lot out of beautifying the food pantry and making it welcoming.”
The team decorated food bins, removed graffiti from delivery trucks and prepared food bags for clients.
Blue Cross Blue Shield employees from all over Massachusetts participated in the community service event at various sites. The company is celebrating its 75th anniversary this year, and has always supported civic engagement.
With the help of 4,000 volunteers, the American Red Cross Food Pantry last year served more than 100,000 clients with more than 2 million pounds of food.
