CDPHP makes Red Cross donation in the wake of Superstorm Sandy

CDPHP announced that it is donating $5,000 to American Red Cross Disaster Relief to aid the recovery efforts following Superstorm Sandy.

"CDPHP is honored to be able to assist the Red Cross with this donation. Thankfully, our local communities were spared from the bulk of the devastation brought on by Superstorm Sandy," said John D. Bennett, MD, president and CEO, CDPHP. "Giving during times of crisis is vital in helping communities and people recover. Our hearts go out to everyone who has been affected by this disaster."

"The Red Cross is able to respond to disasters like Sandy because of the ongoing support that it receives from individuals and financial donors like CDPHP," said Gary Striar CEO of the American Red Cross Northeastern New York Region (ARCNENY).

CDPHP has been an active supporter of the American Red Cross disaster preparedness and relief efforts, and it was the first company to become an educational partner promoting the Be Red Cross Ready program in the community. Last year, following the devastation caused by Hurricane Irene and Tropical Storm Lee, CDPHP presented ARCNENY with a check for $10,000 for disaster relief. The support from CDPHP was also instrumental in the launch of a new initiative by ARCNENY - Be Red Cross Ready University, which delivers preparedness tips and programming to college campuses.

It would not be possible to carry out the mission of the organization without the generous and constant support of the community. The American Red Cross is dedicated to assisting those affected by disasters. Trained Red Cross volunteers and staff are on call 24 hours a days, seven days a week - and are ready to assist when needed with client casework, sheltering, mass care, feeding and more.

Down the street, across the country and around the world - the Red Cross is ready to respond to disasters. Visit to donate to the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund.

Be Red Cross Ready Background: In August 2007, CDPHP and the American Red Cross Northeastern New York Region launched the Get Ready - Be Safe disaster readiness program. This program, now dubbed the "Be Red Cross Ready" program, provides critical information to those who are interested in learning basic, yet effective, survival techniques in the event of an emergency, illness outbreak, or natural disaster. Through this program, the American Red Cross offers training workshops throughout the Northeastern New York Region, as a community service.

The 45-minute workshop is intended to increase awareness and spur attendees to action by providing important information and commonsense tips for facing the challenges of a disaster or emergency. The program covers fundamental survival tactics, such as creating a personal disaster response plan, assembling a preparedness kit, and devising an action checklist, and provides the knowledge and tools required to help keep families safe, calm, and assured in the event of an urgent situation.
