Central Virginia Red Cross Opens Winter Shelters

People are encouraged to come to the shelter if they feel unsafe and need a warm place to stay.

The American Red Cross, in coordination with local Emergency Management Offices, has opened the following shelters for those impacted by the snowstorm:

Ruckersville Elementary School in Greene County

People are encouraged to come to the shelter if they feel unsafe and need a warm place to stay. The Red Cross encourages anyone coming to the shelter to bring the following items for each member of their family:

  • prescription and emergency medications
  • extra clothing
  • pillows, blankets
  • hygiene supplies
  • important documents
  • other comfort items
  • It’s also important not to forget special items for children, such as diapers, formula and toys, and other items for family members who have unique needs.
