Dominion Foundation Donates $25,000 to Project SHARE

Southern Tier 01/07/13 Dominion Foundation Donates $25,000 to Project SHARE
“In the past year, nearly 1,500 people were able to keep their lights on and their houses warm because of this program.”

The Dominion Foundation, the philanthropic arm of Dominion Energy, has provided a $25,000 grant to the American Red Cross Central New York Region for the Project SHARE program that will help keep upstate New York residents warm this winter.

Project SHARE is administered by the Southern Tier Chapter of the American Red Cross (a chapter in the Central New York Region), and NYSEG (New York State Electric & Gas). The program provides financial assistance for heating bills to qualifying individuals. Dominion is one of the nation’s largest producers and transporters of energy, and it supplies energy to the Southern Tier, Central New York and the Mohawk Valley through NYSEG.

The Dominion Foundation grants are funded by shareholder dollars, not customers, and the Foundation’s total giving was more than $20 million in 2012.

“Dominion is proud to donate to various charitable and community programs designed to improve life in the localities where we supply our energy,” said Stanley Ossowski, Eastern Area Superintendent for Dominion Gas Transmission Inc. “Project SHARE is similar to Dominion’s own energy assistance program called EnergyShare, which provides year-round energy assistance to individuals and families in Dominion’s operating area.”

Project SHARE provides financial assistance for heating bills for elderly, disabled or handicapped individuals, and families with an active military member. The Dominion Foundation grant augments funds donated to Project SHARE by NYSEG and others.

“We are extremely grateful to Dominion for its continued support of the Project SHARE program in the Southern Tier and throughout the Red Cross’ Central New York Region,” said Shelley Bierwiler, Red Cross Southern Tier Chapter Community Executive. “In the past year, nearly 1,500 people were able to keep their lights on and their houses warm because of this program.”

The American Red Cross administers the program by receiving applications, determining eligibility and distributing funds. More information on Project SHARE can be found on NYSEG’s website at www.nyseg.com (click on “Your Account” and “Service and Assistance”).

To apply for a Project SHARE grant, contact your local Red Cross chapter or branch office to schedule an appointment to apply for the grant. For more information about the program, contact Michael May at (607) 334-4565 or michael.may@redcross.org.
