Eastern Massachusetts volunteers head to Gulf States

Eastern MA - Eastern Massachusetts volunteers head to Gulf States

As Isaac is winding up for a major landfall on the Gulf Coast, we at the American Red Cross of Eastern Massachusetts have volunteers who have jumped at the chance to help.

The Red Cross is preparing for what could be a large disaster response across multiple states over the next several weeks. Fifteen volunteers from Eastern Massachusetts are heading South, and are being stationed in hot spots from Miami to the Alabama coast. One shelter specialist is flying to Washington D.C. to help direct the efforts from our national headquarters.

As of Monday evening our region is sending the following volunteers to help staff shelters in the Gulf.

  • Paula Farrales of Taunton
  • Robert Fichtenmayer of Wareham
  • Lynn Levine of Barnstable
  • Karen Melchione of Pocasset
  • Jerry Mossey of South Yarmouth
  • Paul Neuger of Duxbury
  • Thomas Scott of Marshfield
  • Joseph Wall of Harwich
  • Gail & Carl Fleischer of Boston
  • Larry Decker of Hyannis
  • Maria Chatzinakis of Yarmouthport
  • Paul Helgesen of Manchester
  • Jim McPherson of Chatham
  • Tom Grimsley of Stoughton
  • Melissa Sieminski of Scituate
  • We have volunteers who are on alert and may deploy after it is safe to travel to the affected areas.

Our two national vehicles and driver teams are on standby, should they be needed.
