This Holiday Season you can make a difference with the gift of American Red Cross Swimming Lessons. Learn-to-Swim lessons teach participants to swim and to be safe in, on and around the water.
Unfortunately, drowning is the second leading cause of death for children ages 1 to 14, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. For every child that drowns, five require emergency treatment for submersion injuries. These data translate into 730 children drowned every year, and another 3,650 injured, many with permanent brain damage.
It is likely that swim lessons were the first experience you or someone you know had with the Red Cross. After all, the Red Cross aquatics program reaches almost three million people every year, and the program has been the most trusted name in aquatics since 1914.
Rekindle memories of those Red Cross swim lessons by giving the same lifesaving skills to a young child today.
