At a special “One World One Roar” assembly on Tuesday, Dec. 3, Lakewood High School students and Red Cross representatives celebrated the school’s success in raising more than $9,000 to help Coloradans affected by disasters.
Members of the Student Senate presented a giant check to American Red Cross of Colorado CEO Gino Greco, who led a presentation demonstrating the impact of the dollars raised by the school.
Lakewood High School won musician Katy Perry’s “Roar” lip-dub competition, earning a free concert by the mega-star at their school in October. The school turned their fortune into a platform to promote charitable giving across the country, challenging high schools across the country to raise $1,000 each to give to a charity of choice.
The American Red Cross was chosen as Lakewood High School’s charity of choice, and thus far the school has raised more than $9,000 through T-shirt sales and donations. To celebrate this accomplishment and to thank the students for their amazing accomplishments and generosity, representatives of the American Red Cross of Colorado led a brief presentation at the school, followed by thank-you snacks served to the students from a disaster emergency feeding vehicle.
Funds from the donation will support local Red Cross efforts to prepare Colorado communities for disasters, respond to disasters including the recent floods, and help local residents recover from disasters such as the floods.
