Holiday Giving Catalog – Blankets Offer Warmth, Security

Red Cross Blankets
...give hope to people in need this holiday season...

The American Red Cross asks everyone to give hope to people in need this holiday season through a donation to the 2013 Red Cross Holiday Campaign.

Holiday shoppers can give something that means something by visiting and browsing through the 2013 Holiday Giving Catalog to purchase a variety of symbolic gifts in the name of the people on their gift list. Their purchase can support the Red Cross mission in many different ways, such as helping a disaster victim, providing comfort kits for injured members of the Armed Forces or helping supply measles vaccinations around the world.

For instance, for as little as a $15 donation, shoppers can buy three warm blankets to keep disaster victims warm and help them sleep comfortably in a Red Cross shelter. When a family has lost everything to disaster, a cozy blanket can not only keep them warm, but offer a sense of security when everything around them is chaotic.

Blankets were part of the comfort offered to people in Colorado this year after flooding forced them from their homes. The Red Cross worked closely with emergency management officials, the Colorado National Guard and local community organizations to support shelters and evacuation centers in numerous locations for residents affected by the flooding. Red Cross workers provided providing a safe place for people forced to evacuate, as well as blankets, cots, meals and emotional support.

The purchase of each item from the 2013 Holiday Giving Catalog is a tax-deductible contribution that supports the mission of the Red Cross. The catalog gifts are contributions toward a Red Cross program area, not a donation to a specific project or item. Those who participate will receive free gifts such as a Red Cross Water Bottle for a donation of $100 or more or a Family First Aid Kit for a donation of $200 or more.
