Hometown Heroes Campaign under way

Through the campaign, our Hometown Heroes can just meet and talk with potential donors about what the Red Cross does.

Extraordinary powers are not necessary to be part of the American Red Cross Audrain-Montgomery Leadership Council’s Hometown Heroes Campaign.

“This is an excellent way for our corps of Hometown Heroes to get out in the community,” said Clayton Kennedy, the chapter’s community market manager. “So many times the public only sees the Red Cross when we are responding to a disaster. Through the campaign, our Hometown Heroes can just meet and talk with potential donors about what the Red Cross does.”

Council members launched their annual fund-raising effort Jan. 2 in the Red Cross Mexico Branch office, 1805 West Boulevard. The campaign will continue through Feb 1.

Each volunteer hero will use their power of persuasion to collect $500 for the Red Cross in a variety of ways. Past heroes have solicited funds from friends, sold raffle tickets and collected loose change at their work.

Funds raised from the campaign will be used for Red Cross services in Audrain and Montgomery counties.

Heroes will be honored at the Leadership Council’s 15th annual Dinner Auction on March 9 at the Elks Lodge in Mexico. They also will receive two free tickets to the dinner.

More information is available by calling the Red Cross branch office in Mexico at 573-581-4273 or stopping in the office, which is open on Mondays and Tuesdays.
