House of Blues Saw Red (Red Cross, that is) at Annual Volunteer Luncheon

The awards acknowledged individuals who serve the Red Cross’s mission to provide relief to victims of disasters and help people prevent, prepare for and respond to emergencies.

The House of Blues on the Sunset Strip in Los Angeles, was singing a merry song on Saturday, Sept. 22 when the iconic club played host to this year’s Volunteer & Employee Excellence Awards. Nearly 200 employees and volunteers attended a much-anticipated, annual event honoring Red Cross’s large family of volunteers.

Los Angeles Region CEO Paul Schulz and former Board Chair Jeff Sakaguchi opened the luncheon with attendees applauding individual and group efforts over the past year at the Mardi Gras-themed event.

The awards acknowledged individuals who serve the Red Cross’s mission to provide relief to victims of disasters and help people prevent, prepare for and respond to emergencies.

In addition, the Red Cross acknowledged its invaluable past and present AmeriCorps Members, Disaster Action Team volunteers, and recipients of service pin recipients; including 35-year volunteers Jerome Thierry and Carol Hopping, and 45-year volunteers Peter Balducci and Delio Perez.

  • Health & Safety Services - Donald Moreno
  • Exceptional Volunteer Service - Scott Ballintyne
  • Youth Services - Heejae Yang
  • Volunteer Leadership - Barry Suddleson. This award was presented In Memoriam, along with a special visual tribute and vest presentation to Barry’s wife and daughter.
