Donna P. Meder of Stockton, NY, a disaster services volunteer for more than 15 years, passed away Monday at the age of 78.
Donna was an active member of the Red Cross of Southwestern New York, serving as volunteer emergency services coordinator, an instructor, ERV driver, and assisting with Staff Services in deploying responders from the Southwestern NY Chapter. She responded to numerous national disasters, including 9/11 and Hurricane Katrina.
Outside the Red Cross, Donna and her husband Charlie owned and operated Char-Don Farms in Stockton. She was a member of the Cassadaga Valley Central School Board for more than 20 years, serving as President for 10 years. She was also a member of the BOCES board for 10 years and the Chautauqua County School Board Association, serving as president from 1982-1984. She was also a member of the Cassadaga Valley Kiwanis Club, Stockton Fireman’s Auxiliary, Chautauqua County Farm Bureau and New Horizon’s Senior Band. Donna was a longtime member of the Stockton Community Church, where she served as a member of the choir and treasurer.
Donna is survived by her husband of 60 years, Charlie Meder, who himself is an active Red Cross volunteer; six children, 17 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren; three brothers and sisters, and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 11am on Thursday at the Stockton Community Church Fellowship Hall. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial gifts be made to the American Red Cross of Southwestern New York or the Stockton Community Church.
Donna Meder was a wonderful person, a dear friend to the Red Cross and a dedicated supporter of her community. She will be greatly missed by her Red Cross family.
