Japanese visitors learn disaster response

Eastern MA 10/18/12 Japanese visitors learn disaster response

Thanks to one disaster volunteer, about a dozen Japanese child psychologists last week got a chance to learn and partake in Red Cross disaster training.

Disaster Mental Health volunteer Shuei Kozu orchestrated the visit, brining the visitors from Japan for a look at how the American Red Cross responds to disasters.

“I wanted them to look at a different model – and see what things they can learn and bring back,” Kozu said.

Kozu began volunteering with the Red Cross right after 9/11, and has been active with response in Japan post earthquake and tsunami.

The visitors toured the American Red Cross of Eastern Massachusetts’ headquarters on Oct. 12 and took a couple of disaster courses.
