Some of our employees and family members have been directly affected by the need for blood. By supporting the Red Cross we are sending a message of hope to patients in need.

Between the music and comradery, the Suburban Propane employee blood drive resembled a company celebration at their Whippany, N.J. headquarters. In a packed room, employees generously rolled up their sleeves and donated 50 pints of blood, achieving 100 percent of the blood drive goal to launch October’s “Fuel Your Community” national partnership with the American Red Cross. Suburban Propane is sponsoring blood drives, mobilizing volunteers to assist at the drives across the country and rolling out an extensive public awareness campaign about the need for blood and enlisting the help of their customers and community members to join them in the lifesaving effort.

“The American Red Cross blood drive at our company headquarters created positive energy and a sense of community among employees,” said Mark Wienberg, Suburban Propane Chief Operating Officer. “This kick-off drive was just the beginning. Suburban Propane employees from Maine to California are helping to increase blood donations in October.”

BLOOD DONATIONS OFFER HOPE From Kristine Smith, a mother receiving blood after the birth of her son, to Janet Nitchman standing by her husband’s side while he receives transfusions after a liver transplant, the Red Cross has touched the lives of many Suburban Propane employees.

“The energy and passion of Suburban Propane employees and customers is inspiring and sends a message of hope to patients who need blood,” said Donna M. Morrissey, director of national partnerships, American Red Cross Blood Services. “Suburban Propane and the American Red Cross have launched a national campaign in October to support 19,000 blood drives to help us with our mission to collect more than 460,000 blood donations needed for patients across the country.”

“Some of our employees and family members have been directly affected by the need for blood. By supporting the Red Cross we are sending a message of hope to patients in need,” said Wienberg.

With just a few more appointments available, after giving blood himself Wienberg continued to show the strong hands-on commitment of Suburban Propane with an announcement to the entire building, encouraging more employees to make their way to the blood drive to become a hero by donating blood.

“FUEL YOUR COMMUNITY” The October “Fuel Your Community” partnership is the first nationwide effort, but it’s the sixth time Suburban Propane and the Red Cross have partnered to raise awareness since 2012. All presenting blood and platelet donors at Red Cross blood drives and donation centers are eligible to win one $5,000 Visa gift card through the end of October, courtesy of Suburban Propane. In addition, Suburban Propane is sponsoring an advertising campaign to raise greater awareness for the constant need for blood and platelet donations, and its employees are volunteering at blood drives and giving blood or platelets themselves.

The Red Cross wants to partner with your business to host a blood drive in the community, and give hope to patients that need blood products. It’s the blood already on the shelves that helps save lives. Visit or call 1-800-RED CROSS (1-800-733-2767) to learn more about hosting a blood drive.
