The Little Falls Fire Department won the “Battle of the Badges” 3-on-3 basketball tournament for players affiliated with fire departments, police agencies and ambulance corps on April 28 at Veterans Memorial Park in Little Falls.

Proceeds from the “Battle of the Badges” went to the Mohawk Valley Chapter of the American Red Cross, which includes Herkimer, Oneida and Otsego counties. The event was sponsored by the Little Falls Fire Department and Police Department unions.

The Little Falls Fire Department defeated the Little Falls Police Department 15-7 in the championship game. The Amsterdam Fire Department finished in third place.

Each team consisted of three to five players, and prizes from the double-elimination tournament were awarded to the top three teams.

Working families in the Mohawk Valley often require emergency assistance as a result of fires, floods and other disasters, and the Red Cross provides relief to disaster victims and helps people prevent, prepare for and respond to emergencies.

From July through April, the Mohawk Valley Chapter provided nearly $70,000 to 349 people from 130 families who were affected by disasters; provided 95 emergency communications and more than $4,400 in financial assistance to members of the Armed Forces and their families; and trained thousands of individuals in CPR, First Aid and other health and safety courses.
