Local Red Cross Responds to Norristown Fire

23 people, including 8 children are helped
Five families from the occupied homes, including 13 adults, and 8 children needed Red Cross assistance.

The American Red Cross of Southeastern Pennsylvania is assisting families displaced from the fire on Willow Street in Norristown which happened on August 6.

In all, six homes were damaged by the fire. Five families from the occupied homes, including 13 adults, and 8 children needed Red Cross assistance. Red Cross workers providing lodging, clothing, and food to the displaced families as well as other emergency items such as diapers, formula and replacement medications. More than one Spanish speaking volunteer from the Red Cross responded to assist those whose second language is English, to assist in communicating with and providing comfort and care to the residents.

Disasters like this fire in the 1000 block of Willow Street in Norristown, Montgomery County happen every day throughout the five county area served by the American Red Cross Southeastern Pennsylvania. The Red Cross stands ready to respond whenever and wherever needed to assist residents in need following disasters like fire, flood, collapse and more. But, none of this is possible without the help of volunteers and donations.

The Red Cross services provided to those affected by disaster are completely free of charge and are made possible solely through donations from the public. The Red Cross gets virtually no government funding and relies on donations to be able to respond every day.
